Satin Tie The Story of Patrik and Meshell Meshell Lamonica 9781450093545 Books
This review refers to the Kindle edition. I've never read a vampire romance story before so I can't compare this story to others in the genre--I can say however, that this book was pretty good for someone's first try. The main characters Patrik and Meshell, were well matched, and the depth of their love was convincing. The books starts out with some background on both of the characters Patrik, a nightwalker/bar owner/Harley rider, is starting to feel his age and along with that, he begins to worry that he won't ever find his true love. Enter Meshell, a 40ish woman with two grown boys, who had lost her previous husband three years earlier. When Patrik's friend, who is married to Meshell's sister (they are both nightwalkers) invites them both over for a BBQ, things start out a little rough, thanks to Patrik's lack of couth. However, they are able to get past this and soon a relationship blooms. The author throws them some curveballs they must overcome along the way: Meshell has health problems and there is a modern-crazy, Van Helsing, chasing them. But thanks to their supporting cast of family and friends, the end turns out well. I really enjoyed meeting all of the characters in the book and I'm a little bummed that I didn't get to read the story of how two of the couples hooked up as I really liked the dynamic of their relationship in Patrik and Meshell's book. I think that the author did a great job of explaining the world of nightwalkers: Their strengths, special powers, weaknesses, etc. The editing could have been a little better along with the transitions between sections. Sometimes the flow of sentences was a little stilted. However, I think that this is something that a good editor would have caught and/or the second book (which I am going to read) will handle better. I'm also hoping for deeper character development in the next book--this isn't something that was missing in the first book, but I'm the type of person who really likes to know the background of the characters that I'm reading. There was a lot of yelling going on in the book and quite a bit of curse words, but I actually thought that this added to the characters--Most of the times when I read one of those parts it had me laughing because I could see the scenes playing out in my head--whatever you do, don't get Meshell mad! Bottom line: this book surprised me. I wasn't sure how I would like it since I don't read this type and I'm very picky when it comes to how people write a story, but it hooked me in right from the beginning. I read the entire thing in about two sittings and it left me wanting more!Product details
